Biography

Jay Hill - Prince George--Peace River
Born in Fort St. John, British Columbia, Jay grew up in a farming community near Taylor, B.C. He graduated from North Peace Senior Secondary and worked in forestry and in the oil and gas industry before returning to agriculture in 1975. He and his brother, Jerry, worked with their parents expanding the family farm, taking it over from them in 1991.
During these years Jay served as President of the BC Grain Producers Association, Director with the BC Federation of Agriculture, Director of Soil Conservation Canada, and Chair of the BC Provincial Seed Fair.
Jay was also active in the local sports community, coaching junior curlers and minor hockey.
Jay was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 for the riding of Prince George--Peace River, which he has continuously represented since. As an MP, Jay has especially distinguished himself in various leadership roles pertaining to House of Commons caucus and legislative management, including Official Opposition House Leader and three times as his Party`s Whip.
Following the Conservative Party`s election as Canada`s new government in 2006, he was appointed Chief Government Whip and sworn into the Privy Council of Canada. In January of 2007, Prime Minister Harper promoted Jay to the Ministry as a Secretary of State. On October 30, 2008 Jay was appointed Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.
Jay lives in Fort St. John, BC. He is married to Leah, and has three grown children, Holly, Heather, and Heath.
