Hill Takes Over Question Period
June 17, 1998
OTTAWA Prince George-
Peace River MP and Deputy Whip Jay Hill will be taking
charge of the House of Commons Question Period starting
next fall.
"Question Period is the most
important tool the opposition has to hold the Liberal
government accountable," said Opposition Leader Preston
Manning. "Jay has the experience in the House of
Commons and the necessary political skills to build on
Reforms success over the last year."
Hill was elected in 1993 by one
of the largest margins of victory in Canada. In the past
five years, he has served critic roles in Immigration,
Regional Development, Finance and most recently Agriculture.
Hill fought on behalf of farmers like himself against
changes to the Canadian Wheat Board, and waged an effective
year-long campaign against the government.
In addition to his roles as Question
Period Co-ordinator and Deputy Whip, Hill will become
one of Reforms Deputy Justice Critics.
