Family Pilgrimage of
Disability Awareness to Arrive in Ottawa

OTTAWA-Deb Grey, Leader of the
Official Opposition (Interim) and Jay Hill, MP Prince
George-Peace River will welcome the Teering family of
Dunster, British Columbia to Parliament Hill tomorrow
morning (June 1st, 2000) at 10:30 am at the
Centennial Flame.
Shannon Teering and her family
are crossing the country to raise the awareness of Canadians
to the inadequacies in the disability benefits within
the Canada Pension Plan. Mrs. Teering is calling on the
government to amend the CPP to create a separate disability
program to ensure the long-term sustainability of the
CPP and the financial security of both seniors and disabled
persons.
Shannon has multiple sclerosis
and is confined to a wheel chair, she is being pulled
across Canada by her husband on his bicycle. Their three
children are following behind in the support vehicle.
