Conservative Victory Sweetens Jay
Hill’s Fifth Election Win
MP Says First Priority is to Restore Trust in Government
Monday, January 23, 2006
Fort St. John, B.C. – Jay Hill told supporters celebrating
his fifth consecutive win as the Member of Parliament for
Prince George-Peace River tonight, that the victory by the
Conservative Party of Canada marks a new, exciting beginning
for the entire nation.
“By electing a Conservative government, Canadians
have sent a clear message that they want our country to
move forward with confidence, pride and vigour,”
said Hill. “Tomorrow is a new beginning for our
great country. A new era to rebuild the trust that must
exist in a democratic country! The trust between a government
and the people.”
Joined by over 100 supporters at a victory celebration
at the Northern Grand Inn in Fort St. John, Hill acknowledged
that many of them had struggled against seemingly insurmountable
odds in the nearly twenty years since the Reform Party
of Canada was founded. “All along the way there
were the naysayers, but together, we persevered.”
Hill heaped praise upon all those who “supported
me every step of the way.” Thanking his supporters
throughout the huge rural riding for their years of ‘keeping
the faith’, Hill said, “You never lost sight
of the ultimate goal which always was to change the way
we do government in Canada and to bring trust and integrity
back to the nation’s capital.”
Hill also expressed his gratitude to the voters of Prince
George-Peace River. “Their continued overwhelming
faith in me is a tremendous honour. The interests and
views of area residents are what motivates me and I look
forward to advancing their concerns from the government
side of the House of Commons.”
Hill concluded, “Along with my Conservative colleagues
who were elected or re-elected tonight, and with the leadership
of Prime Minister-elect Stephen Harper, we can now begin
to put in place the policies, values and ideas we communicated
clearly to Canadians during the election campaign. I can’t
wait to get started on the goals that we are going to
accomplish together on behalf of this country.”
